Woman's day out
its a public holiday in vietnam today. paul & the woman's union team organised a day out to the country.
the outing reminds me of Singapore in the 70s. the activities they do - singing folk songs, playing passing games & taking turns to say jokes are so nostaglically familiar. what a refreshing & simple way of enjoying one holiday afternoon. (rather than finding the best restaurant & pigging it out.) they ask whether i can perform one song. i search for a long time & decided to perform a "Ra Sa Sa Yang". But hor... a little paisay... at the end of the day i couldn't recall the meaning of this song. boys & girls, anyone can tell me what does it mean?
therefore one note for travellers. u shd hv a list of songs in mind before u take off. that can be an excellent way to interact with other cultures. :)

wa seh, mei mei perform "rasa sayang" leh ;)! if my malay doesn't fail me too much, it means a memorable/dear/valuable taste?
Oi! Mei mei!
If i'm not wrong, its a love song. Like those sang by the kampung folks about liking one girl under some tree one.
When you sing the song hor, you must run from tree to tree. hehehe :-)
Heres the lyrics:
"Rasa sayang, hey! Rasa sayang sayang hey,
Hey lihat nona jauh, rasa sayang sayang hey."
(2X)
Translation:
I feel love, hey! I feel love love hey,
Hey when I look at that gal, I feel love love hey.
And then its followed by any imaginable pantun (quatrains), for example this one:
"Buah cempedak di luar pagar,
Ambil galah tolong jolokkan,
Saya budak baru belajar,
Kalau salah tolong tunjukkan."
Translation:
The cempedak-fruit tree is across the fence,
Please take a stick and poke it down for me,
I'm just a new guy trying to learn,
So if I'm wrong then please tell me.
